Kelp and the Lost Little Otter
A Reedy River Tale
Meet the mermaid
Keeper of the kelp forest, friend to every creature that hides in the green.

A Reedy River Tale
Deep in the kelp forest, where the light turns green and soft, Kelp heard a very small sniffle.
1It was a baby otter, all alone, who had drifted away while her family was sleeping.
2Kelp asked the crabs. She asked the snails. She asked an octopus, who pointed eight ways at once.
3So Kelp tied a ribbon of seaweed from her wrist to the otter's paw, and they searched together.
4At sunset they found the otter family, floating in a row, each one holding the next one's paw.
5That is why otters hold hands when they sleep. Kelp taught them. You can ask her yourself.
6Kelp has many more stories in her basket.
