Midnight and the Thing in the Dark
A Reedy River Tale
Meet the mermaid
A spooky-sweet storyteller from the deep, where the fish carry their own lanterns.

A Reedy River Tale
Down where the sun cannot reach, Midnight heard a bump. Then a thump. Then a long, low groan.
1The little fish hid. The crabs hid. Even the brave old eel tucked himself into a boot.
2Midnight lit her lantern and swam toward the sound, because someone had to and she was curious.
3The groan grew louder. A huge shadow rose up in front of her, with two great glowing eyes.
4It was a whale with a tummy ache, who had eaten far too much and wanted someone to sing to him.
5She sang until he fell asleep. The dark is mostly full of things that need a lullaby.
6Midnight has many more stories in her basket.
